Xterra ARB Awning Mount

8/1/2017

We haven't seen many ARB awnings mounted on Xterras so we thought we'd share how we mounted ours. Scouring the forums for hours we finally came across one that seemed like it would be inexpensive (not needing to buy overpriced mounts or new roof rack) and solid enough for off-road use. Basically, the mount uses 3 L brackets and 3 muffler clamps, along with the hardware that came with the awning. FYI, the awning is an ARB 2000 awning.

Thank you for posting your ARB awning mounting experience. I couldn't find anything on the net about mounting one on an Xterra factory rack before running across your blog post. It was spot on and I was able to easily mount my ARB awning using your recommendations.
The only thing I would add for anyone else, is that the muffler clamps need to be 2 1/4" diameter and the L brackets should be 5". Also, the L brackets will need to be drilled out with a 3/8" metal bit in order to fit the muffler clamp. I also added both a flat washer and lock washer to where the ARB square head bolts (provided) attach to the L brackets in order to give it a little more strength.

This land is just the best. I have been to lots of places in the past, but I haven't been to a place like this. I feel like there are lots of great things to see here, and I am just happy that I am here today. I am writing this blog just before I go to sleep. I was so excited that I just had to write this, thank you for the great suggestion, it really made my week.

Hi mate, thank you so much for the write up. Did the exact same thing on my pajero. Saved myself some real $$$ not having to buy a roof rack system and the u bolts do just as good.

Thank you sooooo much for the DIY design. I bought muffler clamps & 5” L bars...just need to find a machine shop that will drill the holes. Waiting for the ARB awning to be delivered. Thanks again

Thank you! This will be perfect. Went on ARB website and internet searched a bunch of links to get ideas, and until this
idea was shared, I was not coming up with the right solution.
Heading out now to get the clamps. Thanks again! You are
smart.
